Travel

Towards the beginning of this year my stepdad obtained a job with United airlines, which is pretty awesome considering my whole family now gets great flight benefits. So, at the beginning of this week when a few of my closest friends and I decided we needed a beach in our lives, we started pulling together all the funds and packing the summer essentials. I mean winter is gross and finals had just ended, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to take advantage of some extremely cheap flights.

We arrived in Chicago on Saturday and planned to leave for a beach of some sort by Sunday morning. There were two requirements for our trip: the beach needed to be warm and somewhere out of the country. Unfortunately for us, our sights were set a bit too high. (PSA: don’t try flying on weekends during the holidays. It’s a trap.) Flying standby during the holidays is nearly impossible, let alone with four girls. In a matter of minutes we saw our travel opportunities dwindling, and even at one point considered calling the trip off all together. Sunday passed. Then Monday. No flights to any beach destination anywhere. We tried everything. Finally, by Monday morning we caught a lucky break. There were 7 seats available for the 9:09 a.m. flight to Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. We were going to Cabo, and it was smooth sailing from there.

We found an absolutely gorgeous airbnb, and truly this trip could not have fallen into place more perfectly. The first day we went to the grocery store and at night ventured down to the beach to check it out. We really didn’t care what we were doing as long as we were in shorts and t-shirts. IMG_1091.JPG

On day two we found the cutest market and snack bar right down the hill from where we were staying. The locals were all retiree’s who had made the snack bar their daily gossip space. It was such a fun little atmosphere to have experienced. I can definitely see myself at 60 spending my days at a snack bar in paradise.

Our last day was spent basking in the sun and swimming. The Pacific is still mildly cold, so not much time was spent in the water. None the less, we were all so thankful to be out of our stressful college town lives and in the sunshine.

I’m so thankful for spontaneous friends and all the opportunities to travel the world with them.

Until my next adventure,

xoxo
